Into a land of lollipops and curly trees

A native Capetonian, I moved up two and a half years ago to a land I didn't know. I accepted the post to head up the Visual Arts Department at a private boarding school in the beautiful KZN Midlands because it was the set of a favourite movie. Although I had never taught single sex or any type of boarding let alone in a PRIVATE school capacity, I reckoned I was young enough to make a life move and old enough to make it on my own - not sure whether The Boys, Pilchard and Deuteronomy, would have agreed if they had had any say in the matter at all although they have fast grown thick coats and have denuded the area of rats so can't complain. As for me, I haven't looked back...
I have fallen in love with the icy dry golden-brown winters, the local artsy-fartsies who make me feel conservative, the fabulous coffee and artisan EVERYTHING... ground that grows and grows and grows and oribi who graze my veggie patch naked. I have even come to love that the closest bread and milk can be bought after a 10 minute car trip, the closest grocery shop, half an hour and the closest movie takes close on an hour to get to depending on the state of the never-ending roadworks on in N3...

This blog will introduce you to some of the fantastic characters I have met in my Dr Seuss world - Lola, the chimes maker... Lara, the crane girl... Gwyn, the miniature tool-wielder... Audrey, the serenading board game creator... Di, the fur-family planner... Nico and Abri, my personal ivory-tinklers... the list goes on goes on and my creativity blossoms. In amongst these delightful characters, I'll also chat a bit about my art process and some of the adventures the wind of the Spirit and my heart take me.
